Engineering Sustainable Futures Through Science, Technology, and Society
Overview
The School of Sustainable Systems and Technologies (SSST) at IISER Bhopal is an interdisciplinary academic and research unit dedicated to addressing sustainability challenges through science, technology, systems thinking, and societal engagement. SSST aims to develop future-ready professionals, researchers, innovators, and leaders capable of driving sustainable transitions across industry, energy systems, governance, and society.
Why SSST?
India's development aspirations including Net Zero 2070, Make in India, Atmanirbhar Bharat, Mission LiFE, and the National Green Hydrogen Mission require professionals who can integrate science, engineering, economics, policy, and governance. SSST was established to address this need through a technology-led and systems-oriented approach to sustainability education and research.
SSST is built upon IISER Bhopal’s unique strengths in Natural Sciences, Engineering Sciences, Economics, and Humanities. The Institute’s interdisciplinary ecosystem, cutting-edge research culture, and strong focus on innovation provide an ideal foundation for addressing sustainability challenges through integrated and technology-driven solutions.
